  • How can Oil Free Moisturizers call themselves ”Oil Free”, when they ALL have animal ingredients?

Brace Yourself

It”s easy to do, there”s a LOOPHOLE in the law. There is no law requiring each ingredient”s source be disclosed. That”s why if you read the ingredients label on ALL oil free lotions and moisturizers you will find a whole lot of words that are long and unpronounceable. We”ve found even the glycerin is made from animals (unless it CLEARLY says vegetable derived). And usually the label will say no animal testing on finished product. Tricky!

Ok if I”m using animal by-products on my face SO WHAT?

Fair question. What part of the cow or pig or sheep do you think they use? The T-Bone steak? The Ham? The Mutton chop?
NO! They use the parts they can”t sell for food. Brain tissue and spinal tissue. Nothing gets thrown away at the slaughter houses today. Knowing all this doesn”t make you feel warm and fuzzy, does it? Not like all those commercials and ads telling you how good Oil Free products are for your skin. They aren”t good for your skin!

Where did all this Oil Free craze come from?

It all started a few decades ago with the idea that ”oils cause acne” so oil free must be good for you. Those marketing people will tell us anything to sell something. People with oily skin do get acne. So therefore oils must play a role. It”s logical. No one noticed that some people with dry skin also got acne. How then is that possible? And many people with oily skin, don”t get acne. Maybe all this is a bit more complicated.

So there is no connection between oils and acne?

No, there IS a connection. Some oils will cause acne in some people. Due to allergies. Especially when used in combination with the ingredients used in make up.

So wouldn’t it be better to use Oil Free products then, just to be safe from these allergies?

Ingredients used in Oil Free Lotions are MORE likely than oils to cause acne due to these animal by-products and chemicals that are used. We believe this could be why adult acne is so common today. As a teen in the 1960”s we knew acne would be over by the time we reached 20. Adult acne was almost unheard of then. Teens today, can”t really look forward to turning 20 for clear skin. 45 million adults suffer from acne just in the USA.

So a Day Time Lotion to be used under make up specifically for Acne Prone skin?

This is what we looked at when we selected the oils and ingredients we use in this wonderful Day Time moisturizer. Specifically for those with acne prone skin to use under make up. This is a perfectly calming lotion that just glides on. And makes a wonderful base for make up. And a tiny amount goes a long way!

INGREDIENTS ( a special combination to help improve the quality of your skin by replacing missing nutrients):

Reverse Osmosis Purified Water: When looking at other skin care products I always want to know how the water they use is purified(if at all). Is it filtered? How small a filter? Ozonated? Often the devil is in the details. We use only Reverse Osmosis purified water. Reverse Osmosis purified water is the gold standard for being clean and pure. So if we are talking microscopic differences why is it important? Reverse Osmosis water, we’ve found, works better than any other water to maximize the potential of the precious ingredients we use. It’s expensive, but we believe anything else is purely just cutting corners.

Castor oil (Ricinus communis L) This oil, derived from the castor bean and obtained by cold pressure, is rich in fatty acids and very moisturizing and lubricating to the skin in general. It acts as a humectant, attracting moisture to the skin. Rated extremely very low in Comedogenicity and Irritancy. Factors used to rate oils for their likelihood to cause acne due to allergies.

Jojoba Oil. (Simmondsia chinensis): Jojoba is very similar in composition to human natural skin oils. It penetrates the skin rapidly to nourish it; also softens and moisturizes mature and dry skin. Jojoba helps to heal inflamed skin conditions such as psoriasis or any form of dermatitis, helps control acne and oily scalps. Produced from the jojoba plant which is expeller pressed, once. No solvents are used during this process. Jojoba is sometimes called “”””jojoba oil”””” when it is actually an extract; it’s not an oil at all but a liquid wax ester. It’s gentle enough for newborn babies; soothes and restores elasticity to any dry skin area yet does not make oily skin feel oily. Rated extremely very low in Comedogenicity and Irritancy.

Babassu: (Orbignya martiana, O. oleifera, or O. speciosa), a/k/a Babacu, Coco de macaco, Aguassu. Babassu is a big palm tree about 20 meters high native to the rain forests of Brazil. Babassu oil is cold pressed from the kernel which contains about 72% lipids (in weight) and is ultra-refined w/o chemicals. Rated extremely very low in Comedogenicity and Irritancy. Perfect for acne prone skin.

Sunflower Oil (Helianthus annuus): It contains vitamins A, C, D, and E, a high linoleic acid content, and few saturated fatty acids. This oil is easily absorbed and can be used on all skin types. Its high vitamin E content makes it especially helpful for delicate and dry skin. It has a protective effect on the skin and is healing when applied to leg ulcers, bruises and skin diseases. Rated extremely very low in Comedogenicity and Irritancy.

Evening Primrose Oil (Oenothera biennis): Extremely helpful in treating eczema and psoriasis; useful in treating allergic skin problems. Its healing action results from its high content of gamma linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid that is vital to cell and body functions and not produced by the body itself. Rated extremely very low in Comedogenicity and Irritancy. Again all these oils are perfect for acne prone skin.

Additional ingredients used to put all this together. Some copy cat moisturizers sold on ebay use thickeners like Zanthan Gum and sea kelp (Algin) to bind oils together. Those ingredients eventually break down and are hard to protect from bacteria. Besides they aren”t true moisturizers and won”t have the same benefits as the ingredients we use to actually combine oils and water in a stable solution.

Purified water

Emulsifying Wax (vegetable derived)

Stearic Acid (vegetable derived)

Glycerin (vegetable derived)

Natural Soap to adjust to pH 7, (we believe a pH of 7 is superior to acidic moisturizers commonly sold today)

Vegetable derived preservative: Germall Plus® diazolidinyl urea, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPDC)

Preservatives are critically important to keep this product safe. We use only tiny amounts required to keep bacteria away.

Lavender Essence We only use real essences. No artificial fragrances.

I go on a rollercoaster ride trying various brands of face skincare products.  I can't help myself.  I like to try everything.  I went back to this one and wow.  It takes using a lot of useless unpleasant products to be reminded once again how great this moisturizer is.  It calms my pale sensitive skin.  I put it under my eyes and no bother whatsoever to my eyes.  In fact, I got clogged pores on my waterlines from another brand of under eye moisturizer and used this moisturizer and a cotton swab to clear them.  It took literally one day for my waterlines to clear out.  They were painfully swollen making my entire eye area swollen.
This moisturizer also makes makeup look better whereas literally every other brand of moisturizer made makeup tacky, too thick, uneven.  I could go on and on about this moisturizer.  I've been using it for many, many years.  I discovered Carley's Clear and Smooth back before Hurricane Katrina.
