Carley’s
relief for: Psoriasis
patchy dry flaky skin
The word Psoriasis comes literally means “to be itchy or to have an
itch” – which perfectly describes this chronic skin condition. People
affected with psoriasis experience extremely dry, flaky, and itchy skin.
This is caused by the formation of extra skin cells on top of the
epidermis, causing the skin to be become thick and almost scaly in
nature. Psoriasis is regarded by conventional medicine as a lifelong
condition with no absolute cure, however we do believe there might be
relief for many.
We looked at the creams out there for Psoriasis and found one ingredient
over and over: Coal Tar.
So what is Coal Tar?: a thick black liquid produced by the destructive
distillation of bituminous coal. It contains benzene, naphthalene,
phenols, aniline, and many other organic chemicals.
Coal Tar: Gee, that sounds so healthy!
If Coal Tar was working so well, how come people continue to ask us for
a product to help? So we decided to do a product for Psoriasis without Coal
Tar. That’s us, always swimming upstream!
-
We did quite a bit of research on ingredients that have been shown
to help relieve this condition.
-
Over and over we found these below ingredients are well known to
help Psoriasis.
-
Yet no one has done anything like this combination.
-
So we made these 11 ingredients into a deep absorbing cream.
1. Calendula: (Calendula Officinalis Flower) The Calendula plant, pot
marigold is not only a beautiful flower, it is also an amazing skin care
ingredient. It is amazing because of its firming and hydrating
properties, as well as its ability to prevent skin damage caused by the
environment, aging, and weather changes. It is important ingredient. So
we don’t just pay it lip service. It is throughout our product. First we
infuse it into the oils and then also into the water.
2. St. John’s Wort: (Hypericum Perforatum Flower Extract) A plant that
has a long tradition in herbal remedies is St. John’s Wort. While it is
more popular for its anti-depressant properties, topical application of
the plant can treat minor wounds, burns, and skin irritations. St.
John’s Wort has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-microbial
properties – all of which can be beneficial to people affected by
psoriasis.
3. Ginko Biloba: Gingko biloba is not only a supplement for memory and
neuronal health, it is also a great supplement for maintaining skin
health. Applying gingko biloba formulations moisturizes the skin deeply,
promoting increased cell renewal and turnover. This will help keep dry
skin hydrated by improving the turnover rate of the additional skin
layers caused by psoriasis.
4. Licorice Root: (Glycyrrhiza Glabra) Licorice – not the candy, the
plant! – has great potential for alleviating the symptoms of psoriasis.
In a 2013 study, licorice extract was used on a dry, itchy, and inflamed
scalp – similar symptoms to psoriasis – and was able to improve skin
moisture and reduce itching and dryness. The licorice tonic was able to
normalize the skin’s lipids, improving the hydration and texture of the
scalp.
5. Aloe Vera: (Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice)Aloe is a favorite home
remedy for burns, sunburn and insect bites, especially during the
summer, but it is also one of the gentlest ingredients you can use for
psoriasis. While a little bit of sunlight is recommended to help skin
maintain its normal cell turnover rate and moisture levels, the sun’s
rays can cause greater damage. Aloe is a great way to keep your dry skin
moisturized.
6. Peppermint: (Mentha Piperita) Because of peppermint’s cooling
sensation, it is a very effective remedy for relieving itching. It is
able to decrease the skin’s temperature, causing the cooling effect and
relieving any discomfort caused by dryness. The scent alone can even
promote rest and relaxation as well.
7. Sunflower Seed Oil: (Helianthus Annuus) Sunflower seed oil (base oil)
was studied and discovered to improve the health of the skin barrier,
promoting elasticity and integrity and improving overall hydration of
the skin. It is an excellent alternative to the more expensive
moisturizing oils readily available in the market without compromising
on the oil’s effectiveness to rehydrate the skin.
8. Virgin Coconut Oil: (Cocos Nucifera) This oil is very fast absorbing,
which helps the other ingredients get deeper into the skin. If you’ve
used our virgin coconut moisturizer, you know how good this ingredient
is.
9. Tea Tree Oil: (Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil) Because dry and
cracked skin caused by psoriasis is prone to wounds and infections,
using tea tree essential oil can be beneficial in keeping skin
bacteria-free. Tea tree extract is a natural antibiotic that can fight
bacteria, viral, fungal, and protozoal infections found in the skin.
The potent anti-inflammatory properties can directly target the
inflammation caused by psoriasis.
10. DL-Panthenol: is well known for it’s anti-inflammatory properties
for professional skin care formulations where it also acts as a powerful
redness reducer when used at only
11. Allantoin: Allantoin is a naturally occurring nitrogenous compound
used as a skin conditioning agent.
additional ingredients
Reverse Osmosis is the gold
standard of water. Obviously we wanted fast absorption.
Using a water with any hard water components or contaminants would slow
down this absorption. Most companies use ‘purified’ water. Which may or
may not be as good. Might seem like a minor point, but I saw a huge
difference in the quality of our products when we switched from ‘just
purified’ about 15 years ago. Now we only use R-O Water.
Emulsifying Wax: Is a vegetable wax. We make true moisturizers.
We do not use thickeners to make fake moisturizers. A true moisturizer
happens when water, wax and oils meet at a specific temperature and
magically changes into a cream that readily absorbs into the skin. This
is not something easy to do in very large batches. This is why we make
all our products in small batches and ship everything fresh.
Stearic Acid: Another vegetable wax use to make moisturizers
creamy.
Germall plus (diazolidinyl Urea,
3-Iodo-2-propylbutylcarbarmate) less than one percent. Vegetable
derived. Proven Safe and effective. Paraben Free.
pH neutral (pH 7) The idea of putting an acidic product on
Psoriasis makes me shudder. Why is this important? Practically every
skin care product on the market is acidic (low pH). We believe a lot of
people are suffering with an overuse syndrome of too much acid. Nature
loves neutral. Ask any experienced gardener how hard it is to grow
vegetables in acidic soil. Your blood is neutral. Most of your body is.
This whole story of the ‘acid mantle’ is unverifiable.
4 ounce jar. (118 mL)
